Ethical hammocks

RELAX AND DO GOOD !

Not everybody on earth was born with the same opportunities, to say the least. I believe that we, the lucky ones, have a responsibility to help the disadvantages ones by making ethical choices when buying any product. We will not solve all problems but you can be proud about the fact that when you buy a fair trade hammock you help a family earn a decent living while keeping their culture alive.

IS THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN OF YOUR HAMMOCK IMPORTANT TO YOU ?

To us it makes a big difference. Our favourite hammocks, and the ones we invest in, are made in Yucatan, by the Mayan people, in Thailand by the Hill tribe families and in Brazil.

  • Mayan hammocks are 100% handmade by Mayan artisans from the Mexican state of Yucatan
  • HILL TRIBE HAMMOCKS are different from anything you have seen until now. They were designed in Northern Thailand more then 30 years ago with the help of a Swiss textile engineer and are now a symbol of the quality those people can produce. They are also certified FAIR TRADE.      Learn more..
  • A hammock made outside of Brazil is NOT a Brazilian hammock.

WE VALUE OUR CUSTOMERS

  • Buying an ETHICAL or FAIR TRADE hammock or hammock chair does not mean you have to pay a boosted high price. For our Mayan, Brazilian and Thai hammocks and hammock chairs we work directly with the weavers avoiding the middle man. We operate from warehouses and not a fancy store on a busy street with high rents. This business model assure you of the best prices for top quality FAIR hammocks and chairs. We do our best every day to ensure that our prices are the best you can find. We constantly check our competitors prices to make sure you are getting the best deal.  When you are comparing our prices with other online retailers, please make sure you are checking the total price and order processing time. We would be very surprised if you do so but let us know if you find a total price lower than ours and we'll attempt to match it. Our goal is to bring you the best deal, which means offering you great products, super customer service and great prices.
  • Of course our hammocks are sometimes more expensive then the lesser quality Chinese ones but doesn't it feel good to know that you are doing good while relaxing on a FAIR hammock?
  • We try to give you all the information you need to make a wise choice, either on our Web site or the manufacturer's ones. If you need more details you can contact us by e-mail and we will get back to you within 24 hours. We work hard everyday to constantly improve our customers service.

MY GOAL IS TO OFFER A GREAT SHOPPING EXPERIENCE SO YOU WILL BE PROUD OF HAVING A FAIR TRADE OR ETHICAL HAMMOCK OR CHAIR HAMMOCK. RELAX AND DO GOOD !

But there is a very good reason why we must stay away from Chinese hammocks.

85% of the cotton used in China come from the Xinjiang region where the Uyghur population is suffering a true genocide and is used as forced labor in shops and on the cotton fields. Chances are that the "brazilian style" hammock you see at such a low price is made over the suffering of this population.

What are the concerns about Xinjiang cotton?

Rights groups say Xinjiang's Uighur minority (also spelled as "Uyghur") are being persecuted and conscripted for forced labour.

Evidence shown to the BBC suggests that upwards of half a million Uighur minority workers a year are being marshalled into seasonal cotton picking under conditions that appear to raise a high risk of coercion.

"Right now, there is near certainty that any brand sourcing apparel, textiles, yarn or cotton from the Uyghur Region is profiting from human rights violations, including forced labour, both in the Uyghur Region and more broadly throughout China," says the Coalition to End Forced Labour in the Uyghur Region, whose members include Anti-Slavery International and the World Uyghur Congress.

Since the beginning of this business I wanted to help minorities to earn a decent living while keeping their culture. Considering the situation in Xinjiang it would be against my values to sell hammocks made in China.
